The Cardiovascular SystemThe cardiovascular system is also called the circulatory system. Its main function is to deliver blood throughout the body. It is made up of miles of blood vessels consisting of arteries, veins, and capillaries. These blood vessels work in conjunction with the heart to transport blood. The cardiovascular system provides the route for blood to travel while the heart is the pump that propels this transportation.

Blood is necessary for survival. It serves several purposes:
- Provides nutrients and oxygen
- Removes wastes
- Transports cells that defend the body
- Regulates temperature
- Disperses chemical instructions such as enzymes and hormones
