The Chambers of the Heart
Movement of the Blood Through the Heart
|
Heart BeatThe heartbeat originates in the right atrium at the sinoatrial node, which is also called the pacemaker. Then the action potential moves across the atria to the atrioventricular node. This causes the atrium to contract. The signal then continues to the AV bundle located in the septum and down to the purkinje in the ventricular walls, causing the ventricles to contract. This normally happens between 60-100 times per minute when a person is resting.
